About the Event

Description

Tacking climate change risk is a very broad and complex problem, and one that needs to be approached in a systematic manner. Within the ‘Physical Risk’ component of Climate Risk, the challenges start with correctly interpreting the science, and then these continue all the way through to the implementation within the risk assessment tools that we have at hand, and ultimately within the business.

About the Speaker

Ioana Dima West is a climate scientist specializing in translating, assessing and quantifying the Physical Risk from climate change within the (Re)Insurance Industry. She has considerable analytical experience with catastrophe models, either building, evaluating, validating or adjusting them – with the aim of ultimately developing a realistic View of Risk.

She previously has led a Nat-Cat Model Research and Evaluation division at Willis Re and currently is leading the Science Function at AXA XL, focusing on advancing the company’s climate change projects and strategy, through internal research as well as development of academic partnerships with direct application to business.

Ioana is passionate about ‘democratizing science’: communicating scientific concepts, by simplifying complex problems into easy-to-understand pieces of knowledge.
